A genuine piece of 18th-century shipwreck treasure! Spanish Colonial 1/2 Real, dated by NGC to 1772–1783 and certified Genuine – El Cazador Shipwreck. The Spanish brig El Cazador sailed from Veracruz for New Orleans in January 1784 carrying a massive shipment of silver coinage and disappeared in the Gulf of Mexico. The wreck was finally discovered in 1993. This example shows the heavy saltwater corrosion and metal loss expected from spending roughly two centuries underwater, but that’s part of the appeal—this is authenticated shipwreck silver, not a reproduction.
