Product Details

Exceptional mid-19th-century English Ridgway pitcher, marked BERLIN WARE to the underside and dating to the early Victorian period. This striking piece features richly detailed black transfer decoration with a soft, flowing quality often referred to by collectors as “flow black.” The smoky black imagery is paired with intricate geometric borders and an elaborate romantic landscape scene. The form is every bit as impressive as the decoration: a faceted paneled body, dramatically flared spout, and extraordinary angular squared handle give this pitcher a distinctly architectural presence. It is a substantial statement piece and a beautiful example of 19th-century English ceramic design. Nearly two centuries old, it shows the wonderful character expected of genuine antique pottery, including overall crazing, areas of discoloration and other age-related wear. Please review photographs carefully for condition.
