Product Details

This piece is a vintage SECLA Portugal ceramic shell serving dish. SECLA (Sociedade de Exportação e Cerâmica, Lda.) was a highly influential Portuguese pottery company founded in Caldas da Rainha in 1947, known for its creative majolica, mid-century modern tableware, and art pottery. Form: A molded white fluted scallop or clam shell base featuring an attached stylized nautilus or murex snail shell near the hinge. Function: These integrated configurations were frequently designed as individual chip-and-dip platters, seafood serving dishes (where the smaller shell holds cocktail sauce or lemon wedges), or decorative trinket catchalls.Finish: Coated in a glossy white monochrome glaze characteristic of SECLA's coastal mid-century collections.
