This is an antique solid brass schoolhouse / hand call bell with a turned wooden handle (c. late 19th to early 20th century). Cast in heavy bronze/brass with double accent ring molding along the lower waist, this primitive hand bell features its original turned wood handle with decorative grooved rings, secured to the brass crown via a metal pin/rivet. Unsigned, maker unknown. The interior retains its original hand-forged iron chain link assembly and cast iron clapper ball, which produces a loud, resonant ring. The bell measures approximately 8 1/4 inches tall overall, with the bottom brass flare measuring 3 3/4 inches in diameter. Condition is very good antique; the brass displays an authentic, aged natural patina with light surface scuffs and minor oxidation spots, while the wooden handle and iron clapper remain sturdy and fully functional.
