A beautiful, heavy piece of authentic French country pottery. This traditional gargoulette features a classic bulbous form designed to keep water cool, featuring a rich, high-gloss tobacco/manganese brown slip glaze. The glaze deliberately stops short of the base, revealing the rustic, unglazed orange-red terracotta clay beneath. It is built with a sturdy overhead strap handle, a side "ear" handle (oreille) for stabilization, and a robust pouring spout.Condition Report (AS-IS)Spout: There is a significant, older chip/break on the rim of the pouring spout (see photos). The edges of the break are smooth from age but the unglazed clay is exposed.Body & Glaze: The glossy glaze shows authentic wear, minor surface scratching, pitting, and scuffing consistent with age and utilitarian use.Base: The unglazed bottom is unmarked, showing faint incised production lines, kiln scars, and stray glaze drips from the firing process.
