Constantine I, also known as Constantine the Great, was a Roman emperor who held the title of Caesar & later Augustus. He was a major figure in the 4th century AD. His rule was marked by many reforms and the establishment of Christianity as the state religion. He introduced the solidus, a gold coin that became the standard for European and Byzantine currencies for over a thousand years.
