This is a nice copy of a 1934 vintage instructional songbook titled Modern... Rudiments of Music and Music Reader. It was designed for singing schools by J. M. Bowman and published by the Stamps-Baxter Music and Printing Co. The purpose of this book was for teaching in primary and normal singing schools, focusing on shape notes (a variant notation system popular in 19th- and 20th-century American gospel music education). This particular copy does have it's flaws as happens with age on a book that's not kept as a museum piece, they are clearly visible in the pictures.
