Up for sale is an original, complete 8-page handwritten travelogue written by Clayton W. Porter ("Pete the Seabee"), chronicling his journey through the Alaskan Inland Passage aboard the S.S. North Sea. Written after 18.5 months of overseas service, this journal reads like a published travel diary with clear, highly legible penmanship. Highlights: Alaskan Ports: Details Sitka (Russian history), Juneau (Mendenhall & Taku Glaciers), Petersburg ("Little Norway"), Wrangell, and Ketchikan ("Paper Nose Charley" history). Inland Passage: Covers Grenville Channel, log rafts ("S.T. Brooks"), Swanson Bay, Bella Bella village, Queen Charlotte Sound, Seymour Narrows, and Victoria, BC. Seabee / Military Content: Mentions leave to Bode, Iowa, returning to Camp Parks, CA, and on-board Navy passport checks. Excellent vintage condition.
