Official U.S. Mint Lieutenant Colonel William Washington medal, the 8th issue in the 10-piece “America’s First Medals” series of pewter reproductions of historic Comitia Americana medals. Honors Washington’s cavalry action at the Battle of Cowpens, January 17, 1781. The original Congressional medal was struck in silver and designed by Pierre Simon Benjamin Duvivier; this U.S. Mint collector reproduction is pewter, not silver. Dramatic mounted cavalry and Winged Victory design with Latin inscription reverse. Includes original U.S. Mint presentation holder and informational booklet shown.
