Product Details

A wonderful vintage Frankie Welch of Virginia Cherokee Alphabet scarf, dating to the late 1960s and featuring Welch’s iconic Cherokee syllabary design in rich brown, black and ivory. Made of silk and finished with a narrow hand-rolled-style hem. The scarf features the Cherokee syllabary arranged in vertical columns, framed by a striking striped border, with the signature “Frankie Welch of Virginia” label at one end. The design is particularly significant in Welch’s body of work: museum collections identify the Cherokee Alphabet scarf as a 1967 silk design, and the University of Georgia holds an example in the Frankie Welch Textile Collection. • Length: approximately 50” • Width: approximately 16” • Material: Silk • Designer: Frankie Welch of Virginia • Design: Cherokee Alphabet • Era: Circa 1967–1970s Vintage pre owned condition. Please review all photographs carefully for condition details. There are some light signs of age consistent with a vintage silk textile.
