Beautiful antique genuine hand-carved shell cameo featuring an elegant left-facing female profile, an especially desirable detail for cameo collectors. The portrait is finely carved in high relief with exceptional detail throughout her upswept hair, floral adornment, facial features and draped clothing. The creamy-white carving contrasts beautifully against the natural warm coral-orange shell background. The reverse clearly shows the natural shell construction and translucency, supporting identification as genuine carved shell rather than molded glass, resin or plastic. This is an older cameo in remarkably nice condition for its age, retaining crisp carving and strong dimensional detail. It is mounted in an ornate gold-tone metal frame and constructed for dual wear as both a brooch and pendant, with a pin mechanism and separate bail.
