Product Details

Original 1960s watercolor. Hand-signed SIBYL (Hechtenthal). Sibyl Hechtenthal was a known mid-century Chicago artist who operated the Sibyl Studio and Gallery on N. Wells St. in Old Town during the 1960s and was a staple exhibitor at the Old Town Art Fair. She primarily worked in mid-century expressive watercolor and gouache, best known for her whimsical, expressive, vibrant clown and theater portraiture. The facial features—such as stylized eyebrows, vibrant face paint, and cheerful, expressive eyes—are signature elements across her clown series. This expressive smiling clown in vibrant teal and yellow is custom framed and matted under glass with hanging wire. See photos for signature close-up and backing wear consistent with age. Vintage wear on original frame/backing. No staining, fading or moisture; pigments are vibrant! Excellent vintage condition. Paint remains lively and vibrant. Frame and backing show honest light wear consistent with age.
