Beautiful 113-year-old German Evangelical hymnal, printed in Stuttgart in 1913. Titled Gesangbuch für die evangelische Kirche in Württemberg 1912 – Kleine Ausgabe, this is the small edition with musical notation and contains 555 hymns. The 1912 date refers to the Württemberg hymnal edition; the printer's colophon confirms this particular copy was printed by Buchdruckerei Chr. Scheufele, Stuttgart in 1913. A striking antique with wonderful period details including bright gilt page edges, ornate pierced metal clasp, textured brown binding, decorative endpapers, traditional German Fraktur/Gothic type, musical notation throughout, and a full-page Crucifixion illustration captioned "Es ist vollbracht!" ("It is finished!"). Inside is an early "M.K. 1917" inscription, ownerships Condition: Authentic antique condition with age-related rubbing and wear to the binding and spine. Tearing/separation is present in portions of the front matter, as photographed. Interior hymn and music pages remain impressively clean and legible, and the gilt edges retain beautiful shine. Clasp is present. A wonderful piece of German Christian, musical and Württemberg history for a collector of antique hymnals, religious books, sacred music or decorative antique books.
