Eugène Ionesco's Le Roi se meurt — the absurdist masterpiece in which King Bérenger the First is told, at the top of the play, that he will die by the end of it, and spends the next ninety minutes refusing. In the original French from Gallimard's Folio series, with the cast list from the 1962 Paris premiere printed inside. The cover carries a haunting painted image of a robed figure walking away toward a pale sun. Condition is well-loved: the cover is creased, edge-worn, and chipped at the corners, with an old owner's inscription from Charleston, South Carolina on the front endpaper (personal details obscured); the text block is complete and readable.
