Product Details

Vintage Scottish Dirk kilt pin (or brooch), a style of traditional "Scottish pebble jewelry" that became immensely popular during the Victorian and Edwardian eras. A prominent faceted yellow/orange citrine (often historically referred to in Scottish jewelry as a Cairngormstone) The hilt and scabbard sections are inlaid with natural regional Scottish hardstones. These typically include red jasper or carnelian, paired alongside a dark green stone which appears to be bloodstone or green agate. This style of jewelry grew out of a nineteenth-century fashion craze led by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who fell in love with Scotland and famously purchased Balmoral Castle. This triggered a widespread desire for Scottish-themed accessories, which were frequently worn to fasten kilts, plaids, or heavy cloaks. This specific type of "SILVER" stamp without a full set of British hallmarks indicates it was likely made by an independent Scottish jeweler during 1940s-1960s
