"The Bearer of the Bolt features a bold, optimistic character, gazing upward into the future with hope and determination. It’s a tribute to resilience, forward motion, and a little bit of electric energy. While creating this piece, I stumbled upon a new technique that I’m really stoked on. Since both were going to have very limited colors, I had to get creative. For years, I’ve used halftone patterns to add texture and a sense of transparency to otherwise solid areas of color. But for this piece, I swapped those dots for something fresh—spray paint splatters! I built a new library of 12 ultra-high-res spray paint textures (by photographing black spray paint on white paper), ranging from soft and subtle to bold and dense. Using these splatters at full size gives the image a gritty, organic feel that’s true to how it was made. I wanted to do something I’ve never done before—make a poster that actually works in 3D.
