This one is a fantastic piece of 19th-century fashion history—a trade card for Mme. Demorest (Madame Ellen Demorest), the pioneer of mass-produced paper dress patterns in the late 1800s. What makes this extra cool for collectors is that it's a local merchant overprint for G. L. Davis in Fonda, N.Y., advertising that he sold newspapers, periodicals, and Demorest's patterns. Subject: Mme. Demorest / Maison de Patrons Haute Nouveauté (Paris & New York). Local Merchant: G. L. Davis – Dealer in Newspapers, Periodicals, Magazines, Books – Fonda, N.Y. Era: Circa late 1870s–1880s. Front Art: A classic Victorian botanical floral motif (rosebud) set against a metallic gold ground. Condition: Front has mild vintage toning and solid color.
