MacDonald “Mac” Gargan, better known as Scorpion, debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #20 (1964) after J. Jonah Jameson funded an experimental procedure to create someone powerful enough to defeat Spider-Man. The treatment granted Gargan superhuman strength, speed, durability, and his signature armored suit with a deadly mechanical tail, but it also left him mentally unstable and consumed by vengeance. As one of Spider-Man’s earliest and most relentless enemies, Scorpion has battled the wall-crawler for decades, joined villain teams such as the Thunderbolts and Dark Avengers, and even became the host of the Venom symbiote, making him one of the few Marvel villains to carry both the Scorpion and Venom identities.
