Product Details

Antique Asbury-Paine Mfg. Co. silver-plated Self-Pouring Teapot, marked on the base with Pat. Apr. 3, 1888. This ingenious Victorian design, patented by James W. Tupper, uses a pump-action lid with the original turned wood finial. Pressing the finial creates air pressure inside the pot, forcing tea through the internal tube and out the spout without lifting or tilting the teapot. Asbury-Paine succeeded Paine, Diehl & Co. and continued producing these innovative teapots in the late 19th century. A wonderful example of Victorian engineering and a desirable piece for collectors of antique silverplate, mechanical serving ware, and tea antiques. Good antique condition with age-appropriate scratches, tarnish, and wear to the silver plate. Interior shows oxidation, rust, and residue from prior use. Original wooden finial is present. Pump mechanism has been tested with liquid and works. Please review all photos for condition details.
