The Black Ram Cichlid is a striking color variant of the popular dwarf cichlid species Mikrogeophagus ramirezi. Unlike the more commonly seen German Blue Ram, Gold Ram, or Electric Blue Ram, the Black Ram is a relatively new line-bred variety prized for its deep, dark body coloration set off by iridescent blue highlights. It's not found in the wild — this coloring has been developed through selective captive breeding — which also means it can still be harder to track down at local fish stores compared to other ram color morphs.
