complete archive of 6 matching vintage French postcards sent home by Private John V. Gatten, Company K, 312th Infantry Regiment, 78th 'Lightning' Division. Addressed to his mother in Springfield, Missouri, in March and April 1919. This incredible lot features a 100% direct front-to-back correlation: the front depicting 'L'Hôpital' at Blois matches his handwritten note 'This is the Hospital I was in'; the view of the neighboring village of Puxe matches his inscription 'This is a Chateau just across the River from Jeandelize'; and the street view of Jeandelize matches his text about 'the main street of town I am in.' Two cards feature clear, authentic 'A.E.F. PASSED AS CENSORED' ink stamps signed by 1st Lt. J.B. Stratford.
