Product Details

Offered here is a three-volume group of original early technical publications from the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (A.I.E.E.), the historic professional organization that later became part of today’s IEEE. These substantial volumes date from the formative period of large-scale electrification, power transmission, telecommunications, and electrical engineering in the United States. The group includes: Volume 47 – October 1928 Volume 47 – January 1928 Volume 50 – June 1931 These are not modern reprints. They are period publications containing the original engineering papers, technical discussions, research reports, diagrams, calculations, and committee reports presented to the profession during the late 1920s and early 1930s. The subjects represented are remarkably broad and document technologies that were actively being developed and refined at the time. Topics visible in the volumes include high-voltage transmission systems, surge-voltage investigations, transformers, circuit breakers, hydroelectric power, railroad electrification, communication circuits, telegraph and telephone systems, lightning protection, synchronous motors, welding, insulating materials, transmission-line testing, and power-system design. One particularly interesting paper shown is “Coupling Capacitors for Carrier Current Applications” by T. A. E. Belt, illustrated with original technical diagrams and calculations relating to high-voltage transmission-line communication. The 1931 volume likewise contains papers concerning submarine cable telegraphy, impulse testing of substations, traveling waves, oil circuit breakers, artificial lightning, synchronous motors, transformer design, welding technology, and other subjects. Beyond their technical content, these volumes provide a fascinating primary-source record of American electrical engineering history. They preserve the actual research and professional discussions being circulated among engineers at a time when electrical grids, long-distance communications, industrial power systems, and electrified transportation were undergoing tremendous expansion. The books retain their original dark cloth bindings with gilt lettering. Condition varies among the three volumes, with visible age-related wear, rubbing, spotting/soiling, and wear or fraying at some spine ends and corners. Interior pages show expected age toning. Please carefully examine all photographs for the exact condition of each volume. An impressive and specialized three-volume historical engineering archive, particularly suited to collections centered on electrical history, early power generation and transmission, telecommunications, industrial technology, engineering history, or A.I.E.E./IEEE material. All three volumes are being sold together as one lot. Your books will be carefully packaged to ensure they arrive safely. Please review all photographs, as they are considered part of the description.
