This is the fourth revised edition (Vierte, umgearbeitete Auflage), published in Heidelberg in 1962. The volume presents the poetic texts of the Codex Regius, the medieval Icelandic manuscript that preserves the principal collection of Old Norse mythological and heroic poems commonly known as the Poetic Edda. These poems are foundational sources for Norse mythology and Germanic heroic tradition, including material concerning the gods, legendary heroes, and the cosmology of the Old Norse world. The book is in its original dark cloth binding with gilt lettering to the front board and spine. A previous owner's handwritten name, “Alta Gunn,” dated March 1967, New Haven, appears on the front endpaper. Condition: Vintage hardcover showing light age and shelf wear. The boards have some rubbing, small marks, and wear along the edges and corners. Gilt lettering remains clearly visible. Interior pages show expected age toning.
