Product Details

The dessert is inspired by an ancient European winter solstice tradition dating back to the Iron Age. Communities would burn a massive, specially selected wooden log—often from a fruit tree—to celebrate the days getting longer. The log was blessed and burned slowly to bring good luck, fertility, and protection from evil spirits for the coming year.As traditional large hearths and fireplaces began to disappear from homes in the 19th century, French bakers cleverly kept the tradition alive by turning the physical wooden log into a delicious culinary centerpiece.
