Beautiful vintage Moritz Zdekauer porcelain bread-and-butter plate from the historic M.Z. Altrohlau factory in Czechoslovakia, decorated in the factory's documented Diana pattern. Unlike an unmarked floral plate, this example gives us unusually strong identification evidence: the underside is clearly backstamped “M.Z. Altrohlau CM-R Czechoslovakia” and separately marked “Diana.” The approximately 6 1/8-inch plate has a distinctive early-20th-century design, with a colorful flower basket centered in the well, sprays of orange, yellow and blue flowers around the cream-colored border, and an unusual repeating green-and-gold geometric rim. Fine gilt detailing around the inner well and outer edge gives the small plate considerably more visual interest than ordinary replacement china. M.Z. refers to Moritz Zdekauer, associated with the important porcelain works at Altrohlau — the German name for Stará Role, now part of Karlovy Vary in the Czech Republic. Historical references associate the M.Z. Altrohlau / CM-R / Czechoslovakia marking with the First Czechoslovak Republic period following 1918, making this a genuine piece of interwar Central European porcelain rather than modern reproduction tableware. The Diana pattern is especially easy to document on this example because the pattern name itself is printed on the underside. The floral basket, cream border and stylized geometric edging give it a charming period look that works well as a replacement piece, cabinet display, wall-plate arrangement or addition to an existing Diana service.
