A much prettier piece than a generic “Made in Germany” plate. This vintage German porcelain plate is decorated with an unusually elaborate border of tiny pink rosebud garlands arranged in graceful swags, individual rose sprigs, small green square accents, and a distinctive olive-green geometric fan/scallop border. A fine gilt-tone edge finishes the design and gives the piece an elegant old-world tableware look. The underside carries an original red “Made in Germany” country-of-origin stamp. No factory name or identifiable maker's trademark accompanies the stamp, so the manufacturer is intentionally left unattributed rather than assigning a German porcelain company without evidence. Country-of-origin markings such as “Made in Germany” began appearing on German export wares in the late 19th century. The floral-garland decoration and formal border treatment are consistent with German export porcelain popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, although the simple country stamp by itself does not establish a precise production year. The repeating miniature roses appear to be transfer/decal decoration rather than fully hand-painted decoration. The combination of romantic rose swags and the structured green border gives the plate strong cottage, traditional, grandmillennial and vintage European display appeal—equally attractive in a china cabinet, wall-plate arrangement, or mixed antique table setting.
