Beautiful antique Weimar German porcelain bread or dessert plate dating to approximately 1905–1924, with delicate pink floral sprays and an unusually ornate raised gilt border. This approximately 6-inch porcelain plate was produced at the historic porcelain works in Blankenhain, Thuringia, Germany. The underside carries the early green Weimar shield with “Germany” beneath it. Porcelain-mark references date this version of the factory mark from around 1905 until 1924, when the design was changed by adding a crown and laurel. The decoration is what makes this piece stand out from an ordinary small floral plate. The broad scalloped rim is covered in molded scrolling relief with extensive gold gilt accents, surrounding a softly shaped inner well decorated with graceful pink and green floral sprays. The combination of bright white porcelain, pastel flowers, and intricate raised gilding gives the piece a refined turn-of-the-century appearance that displays especially well. Because this mark spans more than one ownership period at the Blankenhain factory, I would not attribute the plate specifically to either Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur AG or C.&E. Carstens without additional evidence. The factory was operated by Duxer from 1898–1918 and by C.&E. Carstens beginning in 1918.
