Beautiful antique carved wood architectural ornament featuring an abundant arrangement of fruit, nuts, leaves and foliage rising from a deeply carved classical urn or basket form. Measuring approximately 6 x 5 inches, this sculptural piece was likely originally mounted as a decorative finial or crest on a substantial piece of furniture, staircase, newel, bed or other architectural element. The flat unfinished back retains old mounting holes, supporting its original use as an applied architectural or furniture ornament. Deep hand-carved details and a rich dark finish give the piece wonderful dimension and timeworn character. A fantastic piece of antique architectural salvage that now stands beautifully on its own as a small sculptural object.
