Vintage December 1973 12th printing of the classic Scholastic softcover humor collection Barrel of Chuckles. Compiled and edited by prolific children's author Ann McGovern, and originally copyrighted in 1960 by Scholastic Magazines, Inc. Released under catalog number TW 283, vintagescholastics - WordPress.com. The front cover features a wonderfully wild, cartoon-style mid-century illustration of characters spilling out of a wooden barrel, complete with a runaway alarm clock and a frightened horse. The back cover reads, "Roll out the barrel of giggling gags and goofy goings-on..." and displays three classic text preview jokes featuring historical explorers Lewis and Clark, a diner customer, and a quirky diet. Condition: This copy is in highly presentable condition. The cover colors remain bright and lively with minimal shelf friction, the spine edges are uncreased, and the structural binding is perfectly tight and secure. A great piece of 1970s grade-school comedy.
