Exceptional antique 19th century American wallpaper-covered wooden dome-top document/storage box. The box features a beautifully aged polychrome printed paper covering with architectural, geometric and decorative motifs, including faux drawer-like panels and ornate borders. Nailed wood construction with original-style iron hinges, hardware and front lock/hasp. The interior is unfinished wood with an old floral paper label/remnant attached to the underside of the lid. Approximately 16" wide and 10.5" tall; please see photos for additional measurements. Condition is very distressed and completely honest to its age, with extensive paper loss, peeling, staining, scratches, surface wear, old repairs/losses and areas of exposed wood. Hardware shows age and oxidation. The lid opens and closes. A wonderful primitive Americana display piece for collectors of early wallpaper boxes, folk art and antique storage boxes.
