Product Details

Nellie C Bailey A Romance of the West by Mary E. Jackson (published in 1887), tells the true, high-profile 19th-century frontier story of a young Kansas woman entangled in romance, betrayal, and a sensational murder trial. Though written in the style of a modern sensational novel or romance, the material is heavily based on real people and sworn court testimony from the era. The narrative tracks Nellie's turbulent early life, including loveless, forced marriages and the general hardships faced by independent women navigating the American West during the late 1800s. When Nellie's wealthy husband died, authorities suspected foul play, They believed Nellie and an associate conspired to kill Bothamley to steal his wealth, land deeds, and property. Her trial took place in January 1885.
