Original 1861 Civil War-era edition of Cavalry Drill and Sabre Exercise, compiled by George Washington Patten, late of the U.S. Army. Published in New York by J. W. Fortune. Illustrated throughout with period cavalry formation, drill and tactical diagrams. Original blue printed paper wrappers are still present, including period advertisements for Patten's military publications. Copyright and title pages both dated 1861. Antique condition with considerable wear consistent with age and use. Wrappers have edge loss, tears, chipping and separation/weakness at binding. Pages show age toning, occasional staining and handling wear. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition. Scarce early Civil War cavalry training manual and an excellent piece for a Civil War, U.S. military, cavalry, sabre or military-book collection.
