Antique French Sarreguemines “Jardinière” ravier, circa 1890s, by Utzschneider & Cie. Oh, this one has ALL the things. 🖤 A beautiful late-19th-century French faience ravier in Sarreguemines' Jardinière décor, featuring smoky flow black/mulberry floral transferware against a creamy white ground. The wonderfully unusual molded form has a scalloped, shell-like body with raised floral, foliate and fan decoration at one end. The dark transfer settles beautifully into that relief work and gives the entire piece incredible depth. Marked underneath: JARDINIÈRE U et C SARREGUEMINES U & C represents Utzschneider & Cie, the historic Sarreguemines manufacturer. There is visible age-related crazing and some lovely soft discoloration/patina within the glaze — exactly the kind of evidence of age that gives 100+ year-old French pottery its character.
