Product Details

Antique English ironstone covered sugar pot, attributed to Francis Morley & Co. of Shelton, Staffordshire, circa 1850s. This is the early Vista pattern in a beautiful faded red/pink transfer, featuring a romantic architectural landscape with figures, trees, fountain and elaborate ornamental borders. Vista was introduced during the Francis Morley period and later became much better known through Mason’s production. The substantial early ironstone body has wonderful form with angular double handles, a molded/scalloped lower body and fitted domed lid with openwork finial. Beautiful old crazing, creamy age coloration and transfer wear throughout — exactly the kind of surface history I love on early ironstone. Condition note: the lid/finial has an old visible repair, as photographed. Please review all photos. Base is unmarked. Approx. date: c. 1850–1858 Attributed maker: Francis Morley & Co., Shelton, Staffordshire, England Pattern: Vista Material: Ironstone Decoration: Red/pink transferware Form: Covered sugar / sugar pot A really special early Staffordshire piece with all the age, patina and character you want to see.
