ntique English Aesthetic Movement blue transferware plate, c. 1880–1885. This one has ALL the character I want in an old piece. A gorgeous late Victorian Aesthetic Movement design filled with wonderfully mismatched imagery—botanicals, a dragonfly, scenic cartouches and a portrait medallion layered together in that wonderfully eccentric Japanesque style of the period. Deep cobalt blue transfer on an aged creamy ground with heavy all-over crazing and beautiful time-earned staining, front and back. The reverse retains a blue pottery mark, although I have not been able to confidently attribute the maker. CONDITION: Please note the plate has a recent hairline crack, shown closely in photos. The hairline occurred while I was unpacking the plate. It also has extensive antique crazing, staining, surface wear and discoloration consistent with its approximately 140+ years of age. Please review photos carefully. For me, the crazing and staining make this one—the marks nearly a century and a half left behind.
