Ten tiny British Guardsmen reporting for duty! 🇬🇧 Charming vintage set of 10 painted wooden soldier skittles, each measuring approximately 2¼" tall. These miniature skittles are styled after the iconic British Guardsmen/Royal Guards, with bright red tunics, dark boots and those unmistakable tall bearskin-style hats. Skittles are a traditional British bowling game, and soldier or Guardsman versions have been produced in England and elsewhere for generations. These little fellows appear to be lathe-turned wood with painted details and show wonderful individual variations in their faces and finish. I believe these are mid-20th century vintage, although they are unmarked, so an exact maker and country of manufacture cannot be confirmed. Expect age-related paint wear, little nicks, rubs and variations throughout — exactly the kind of character I want to see in an old set of wooden game pieces.
