Charming mid-century metal advertising serving tray from Palatine Drapery & Linen Shops of Chicago, Illinois. Features a wonderful Pennsylvania Dutch/folk-art inspired scene on a bright blue ground with a woman in period dress, colonial-style house, sheep, stylized flowers and decorative flourishes. Reverse is advertising marked: Palatine Drapery & Linen Shops 1326 Milwaukee Avenue – Chicago 22, Illinois 4241 Archer Avenue – Chicago 32, Illinois with the original ARmitage and LAfayette telephone exchange numbers. Measures approximately 14” x 9½”. A fantastic piece of Chicago advertising history with great mid-century color and primitive/folk-art appeal. Condition: Shows definite age and use. Front has scratches/scuffs and small areas of paint wear. Reverse has heavier surface wear, staining/residue, scratches and areas of oxidation/rust. Sold with the original patina intact—see photos.
