Scarce decorative “Alta Edition,” dating approximately c. 1886–1890. Kippis’s celebrated narrative recounts Captain James Cook’s voyages and life during the great age of Pacific exploration. Beautiful original publisher’s decorative cloth binding with elaborate black botanical ornamentation, gilt title panel and “Alta Edition” prominently displayed on the front board. Period handwritten ownership inscription dated 1890, West Point, Georgia, providing excellent provenance for the age of this copy.
