Shannon is an unusual period work examining marriage, heredity, health, sexuality, “social purity,” and contemporary ideas about physical manhood and womanhood. Profusely illustrated, including a color frontispiece and numerous photographs and illustrations. An interesting primary-source example of early 20th-century American attitudes toward eugenics, sex education, marriage, health, and heredity. The ideas presented reflect the beliefs and prejudices of the period and should be understood in their historical context. Original black cloth binding with “Eugenics” on the front cover.
