Antique sterling silver oval belt/sash buckle featuring an ornate pierced floral border, applied scrollwork and a central hand-painted floral enamel plaque. Reverse buckle mechanism is clearly marked STERLING. Traces of an old gold-wash/gilt finish remain throughout the front and reverse, creating an attractive two-tone appearance. Likely late Victorian/Edwardian to early Art Nouveau period, approximately 1890-1915, based on construction and style. Exact maker and country of origin have not been identified. Measures approximately 2.5” wide and weighs 18.97 grams. Antique condition with patina, surface wear and losses to the original gilt finish.
