Product Details

This is a remarkable authentic 1946 vintage advertising silhouette calendar from the historic Tedrow Hatchery of Wauseon, Ohio, with Glen Seiler identified as proprietor. The front features a wonderful narrative silhouette scene depicting a mother and her young son in a domestic interior setting. The crisp black silhouettes are accented with beautiful period details including a piano, side table and lamp, framed wall art, patterned wallpaper and a large multi-pane window. Pops of pink, turquoise, green and blue add color to the scene, including vibrant floral curtains and a lovely view of autumn trees outside the window. The original advertising panel remains prominently displayed along the bottom and reads: TEDROW HATCHERY GLEN SEILER, Prop. Baby Chicks, Feeds, and Poultry Supplies TEDROW PHONE 2442 — WAUSEON, OHIO The reverse is especially wonderful and helps firmly date the piece. It retains the original card backing and original paper calendar pad showing September 1946, along with the original hanging string loop. Presented under glass in its original slim gold gilt metal frame, this is a fantastic survivor of the era when local businesses distributed decorative advertising calendars and promotional artwork intended to be displayed in customers' homes. The combination of original 1946 calendar, named local Ohio business, period advertising and colorful silhouette artwork makes this especially appealing for collectors of Ohio advertising, Wauseon Ohio history, Fulton County memorabilia, vintage hatchery advertising, poultry advertising, farm advertising, agricultural advertising, 1940s calendars, silhouette art, Americana, Retro decor and local business ephemera.
