This is a hand-thrown-style stoneware pitcher or jug with a tall cylindrical body, generous loop handle, and pinched pouring spout, finished in a deep mottled cobalt/midnight blue glaze that shades and streaks over the exterior. The interior is glazed in a contrasting warm honey/oatmeal tone, and the unglazed buff stoneware foot ring is stamped with the oval "Denby Stoneware — Made in England" backstamp used by Denby Pottery of Derbyshire, England. Denby has produced durable salt-and-oven-safe stoneware since the early 19th century, and this style of glaze and mark corresponds to the mid-to-late 20th century, roughly the 1960s through the 1980s.
