Product Details
Vintage John Wagner & Sons wooden spice chest featuring two original glass apothecary-style spice bottles with fitted glass stoppers. Includes Thyme and Whole Cloves, both retaining their original cream-and-gold paper labels marked “John Wagner & Sons — Purveyors to Epicures Since 1847 — Ivyland, Pa.” The wooden chest has a dark stained finish, carved/raised detailing, small decorative metal hardware, a hinged lid, and fitted compartments that hold the bottles upright. The bottles retain wonderful aged character, including remnants of their original spices. The paper labels show discoloration, spotting and general age-related wear, and the glass has some cloudiness/residue consistent with vintage kitchen use. John Wagner & Sons was a historic Pennsylvania specialty-food company founded in Philadelphia in 1847. The company expanded from imported cigars into teas, spices and other specialty foods and later operated from Ivyland, Pennsylvania.
