Historic 1808 British East India Company 10 Cash (X Cash) copper coin struck at Matthew Boulton’s Soho Mint in Birmingham for the Madras Presidency of British India. Features the East India Company arms with two lions and the 1808 date on one side, with Persian inscription and “X CASH” denomination on the reverse. This is the famous coin type associated with the Admiral Gardner shipwreck of 1809. The Admiral Gardner was carrying a massive cargo of these newly struck copper coins to India when she was wrecked off England. Large quantities were later recovered from the wreck site.
