Written for Christian scholars seeking to better understand the Jewish world of Scripture, the work draws on Hebrew and rabbinic sources, biblical texts, travelers, and earlier antiquarians. Includes striking copperplate engravings, folding material, movable paper elements revealing tomb interiors, and a reconstruction of Rachel’s Tomb. This copy bears the ownership inscription “Stephanus Baluzius Tutelensis,” strongly identifying it with the library of renowned French scholar and bibliophile Étienne Baluze (1630–1718).
