Originally containing vacuum-packed coffee, these sturdy square glass jars were introduced around the 1920s to 1930s as a premium way to preserve freshness. Instead of paper labels that would easily tear or wash off, Closset & Devers heavily embossed their branding directly into the glass faces so that homemakers would instinctively repurpose them as kitchen pantry storage jars after the coffee was gone. A great piece of Pacific Northwest advertising history! This is an authentic, early 20th-century clear glass kitchen storage jar used to distribute Golden West Coffee, packed by the historic Closset & Devers company based in Portland, Oregon.
