Up for grabs is a wonderful piece of mid-century Americana—the official California Originals ceramic turtle figural cookie jar, mold number 2635. Made in the USA during the late 1960s to early 1970s, this whimsical "Happy Hippy" turtle features a smiling expression, a molded sun hat lid, and a textured brown glaze beautifully hand-painted with retro olive green and harvest gold floral accents across his shell and chest plate. This substantial cold-painted art pottery piece stands approximately 12 inches tall to the top of its hat brim and measures right at 8.5 inches wide, making it a stellar statement piece for a retro kitchen display. The exterior presents beautifully with strong cold-paint fidelity, minimal surface rubbing, and excellent structural shape on the shell and head. The interior seating rim of the base opening features a flat chip, and the lower unglazed seating flange of the lid has a smooth flat chip. Both of these inner chips are strictly structural to the seating lips and are completely hidden from sight by the overhang of the sun hat lid when it is placed normally on the base, keeping the exterior look entirely clean. The unglazed bottom underside features standard vintage shelf wear and surface scuffs from use, but remains completely solid with no structural cracks or splits.
