Elegant B.B. CO. signed period vanity compact, dating approximately late 1930s–early 1940s. The dramatic black enamel exterior frames a luminous floral guilloché enamel panel, created over an engine-turned geometric ground that produces its distinctive shimmering pattern. The interior is especially appealing, retaining its mirror and two separately covered cosmetic compartments, both decorated with finely patterned engine turning. B.B. Co. is documented on other period enamel compacts, including a remarkably similar floral guilloché example identified as 1940s. Earlier B.B. Co. enamel work is also documented, showing the firm’s longer association with fine enamel vanity objects. Beautiful age-related wear consistent with use and preservation.
