Philodendron sp. ‘El Choco Red’ is a species-form Philodendron associated with the Chocó region of Colombia, where it grows in the warm, humid forests of the region. It is recognized for its broad, heart-shaped leaves with a soft, velvety surface and prominent venation. New foliage emerges in rich coppery to reddish tones, often accompanied by warm brown veins, before gradually deepening to a darker green as the leaves mature. The contrast between the colorful new growth and mature velvety foliage is one of its most distinctive features. This plant has a climbing growth habit with moderately spaced internodes and benefits from vertical support as it matures, allowing the leaves to increase in size and develop more fully.
