Product Details

A wonderfully strange 1925 first U.S. edition of The Merry Piper; or, The Magical Trip of the Sugar Bowl Ship, written and illustrated by fantasy artist Harold Gaze. Ruth, Norman, and Uncle Hal journey into the enchanted land of Goodness-Knows-Where, where they join Turvy Wee, a fairy outlaw searching for the mysterious Pearl of Happiness. The adventure unfolds among fairies, gnomes, magical temples, enormous flowers, and wonderfully peculiar creatures. This Little, Brown & Company edition features eight full-page color plates, numerous black-and-white illustrations, pictorial endpapers, and Gaze’s whimsical fairy figures decorating the cloth binding. An uncommon piece of 1920s fantasy whose dreamlike artwork feels like discovering an entirely forgotten fairy world.
